Gilroy’s phantasmic fists are set to do battle in the ring once again, with an July 15 fight against Omar Figueroa at the Nassau Coliseum.
The bout, Guerrero’s first in almost a year, will be the main event of a four event night to be aired on Fox at 5 p.m. with the undercards.
This will also be the first fight in the Coliseum since 1986.
Guerrero is seeking his first win since his June, 2015 victory over Aaron Martinez by split decision.
A win in July will end Guerrero’s first multi-bout losing streak of his career, having suffered back-to-back losses to David Emanuel Peralta and Danny Garcia in 2016.
Guerrero’s opponent is a 27-year-old fighter us has yet to be defeated in 27 bouts.
Figueroa is 26-0-1 with 18 knockouts, but hasn’t fought since defeating Antonio DeMarco by unanimous decision in December, 2015.
Figueroa is the former WBC lightweight champion, which he won in 2013 and held through 2014.
According to his biography on Premier Boxing Champions, Figueroa lost his lightweight title after suffering an infection in his eye following a head butt he suffered while battling
Daniel Estrada in 2014 to retain his title.
Figueroa has since moved up to the welterweight division, winning to matches in that division.
He returned to the ring in 2015, defeating Ricky Burns by unanimous decision before taking down DeMarco by unanimous decision in December of that year.
Figueroa is moving up to super welterweight to take on Guerrero.
The undercard for the bout will feature two undefeated contenders Marcus Browne and Seanie Monaghan.
