San Jose – County planners will meet with the public this evening to explain what went wrong with a controversial development in the Santa Teresa foothills in South San Jose.
The meeting comes after members of an area neighborhood association complained that a 13,000-square-foot house under construction near the Intersection of Snell Avenue and Santa Teresa Boulevard was not subject to an extensive review process implemented to curtail development in the scenic corridor.
Jody Hall Esser, the interim director of planning and development for Santa Clara County, said Tuesday the error was the result of a software glitch that erased the property’s designation after its parcel number was changed in 2003. She said county planners have taken numerous steps to ensure the mistake isn’t repeated, including an audit of similar county properties and backup system.
At the meeting, planners will show off the project’s design plans and take comments. Planners will decide at a meeting next week whether the project needs to be revised. Hall Esser said the owner intends to cooperate.
The meeting is scheduled for 6:30pm, at the Southside Community Center, 5585 Cottle Road, San Jose.
