The Gilroy Police Department arrested three of its “Most Wanted” suspects in a little more than a week, including one man who was subdued by a police baton in a grocery store parking lot, GPD Sgt. Chad Gallacinao said.
Around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, a GPD patrol officer spotted 30-year-old Patrick Caudill – wanted for making criminal threats – walking in the 800 block of First Street. When the officer approached him, Caudill fled on foot into the Nob Hill parking lot, Gallacinao said.
Caudill failed to surrender and took an “aggressive stance” before approaching the officer. The officer then struck Caudill with a police baton in “the lower extremities,” Gallacinao said.
“In self defense, the officer had to use a baton to subdue Mr. Caudill,” Gallacinao said.
Other officers soon arrived to help handcuff and detain Caudill, who was additionally booked for resisting arrest.
Gilroy police also arrested 37-year-old Michael Ahmed, who was wanted on seven warrants, including two for felony false imprisonment and possession of a controlled substance, according to GPD.
Officers located Ahmed around 9 a.m. on Jan. 13, officers while responding to reported restraining order violation in a neighborhood near Lewis Street and Rogers Lane.
Ahmed fled on foot near San Ysidro Park after officers arrived, but he was caught and transported to the Santa Clara County Main Jail in San Jose, Gallacinao said.
In addition to the two felony warrants, Ahmed also was wanted for violation of a protective order, possession of hypodermic needle or syringe, use of a controlled substance and two counts possession of controlled substance paraphernalia, according to GPD.
“The police department sees value in the Gilroy’s Most Wanted program, whether it be officers or citizens that recognize these criminals on the street,” Gallacinao said. “We all have the same goal, and posting the names and photos of people who are causing and creating illegal activity in the city will lead to arrests, or, at least, make those responsible feel uncomfortable.”
On Jan. 9, officers also took into custody Theresa Gonzalez, a 53-year-old woman wanted for theft.
