CALLER 1: Gilroy Freshman football. You may want to check with coach Tim Lemos. I believe he was on the only other freshman team to beat Palma. That was in 1979. And not only that, two of his teammates at the time have kids that he now coaches on this freshman football team.
GREEN PHONE: Good question, Caller. But we think you’re confusing the history of the freshman and JV levels. Before last week, no other Gilroy freshman team had beat Palma. But in 1978, the JV team beat Palma for the first time. Lemos wasn’t on that team, but varsity offensive coordinator Tim Pierleoni was.
CALLER 2: The beef is that people should stop complaining about every sport there is to be covered. My other question is, before baseball season is over, the Arizona Diamondbacks, I think it’s on the left side of their sleeves they have an emblem of something and all I would like to know what it is and why they have it there. Thank you.
GREEN PHONE: Caller, the emblem you could be referring to is the 1998 Inagural Arizona Diamondbacks patch that commemorates the franchise’s first season patch. That’s the only Diamondbacks-specific emblem we could find information on. And you’re right, the team wears it on the left sleeve.
