Dear Editor,

I am appalled that the Gilroy Planning Commission and Gilroy City Council are even considering removing the beautiful trees along Hecker Pass Highway. Didn’t they think of this when they changed the zoning and voted to allow all of those homes to be built? Is this a big surprise? I don’t think so. I was saddened when I read how many new homes were approved in the Hecker Pass area. I am even more saddened by what may have to be done to prepare for all of the additional traffic.

In the last few years I have seen a big, ugly city emerging from what was once a pretty town. I am not against growth. Growth is inevitable. But we do not need to destroy all the beauty surrounding us to grow and prosper.
