The following is a response to a recent column regarding home
schooling:
Interestingly, there is no exemption in the California Education
Code for
”
home schools.
”
In other words, education code does not recognize the term
”
home school
”
and therefore does not exempt students from compulsory
attendance if they are, in layperson’s terms, being home
schooled.
Interesting submission. Why doesn’t the Ca State Dept. of Education Web page offer this information? To my knowledge no notification of these steps has ever been sent to the homeschooling community, or published as an official statement in local papers. Without official notification this editorial submission has the appearance of an attendance clerk overstepping authority.
