that’s unquestionably the case with the Gilroy Unified School
District race.
It’s not often than change isn’t necessary on a local board, but that’s unquestionably the case with the Gilroy Unified School District race.
Votes should return the four incumbents who are vying for four seats against a lone challenger. The fact that there is only one new candidate in the race speaks to the skill and commitment level of the four trustees who have guided GUSD in recent years. Tom Bundros, Denise Apuzzo, Francisco Dominguez and Jaime Rosso should all receive a ringing endorsement from voters. Challenger Dom Payne has mounted a timid campaign for a seat, and there is simply no reason to “throw any of the rascals out.”
What’s special about this group is the fact that while they don’t always agree, they work in harmony. What’s special about this group is that there’s a diversity of backgrounds and viewpoints but a strong commitment to finding solutions to difficult educational issues. What’s special about this group is its ability to honestly assess the district’s progress and keep moving forward.
They either currently have or have had children in the district and all four are in touch, to varying degrees, with the community at large and the employees of GUSD.
It’s a good team – the best, frankly, in quite a long time. And, while everything in GUSD isn’t perfect, these board members are working hard and have clearly defined district goals in tandem with Superintendent Debbie Flores.
A vote for the four incumbents will keep our schools on track.
