James W. Kelly passed away in Orinda on July 25.
He was born in Gilroy on Nov., 20, 1924, to Clifford and Daisy Kelly. Jim attended Gilroy High School, where he was active in the championship Gilroy Marching Band. He graduated from University of California, Berkeley where he was a member of the UC Motorcycle Enthusiastics.
He continued his love of cycling throughout this life, including trips to Europe. Jim taught at Richmond De Anza High School and was proud of his accomplishments in developing math manuals for schools. He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II.
Jim is survived by his son Ron and wife Barbara Kelly of Cameron Park, daughter Sherrie Padilla of Novato, grandsons Blake, Dallas and Wyatt Kelly of Cameron Park. He was preceded in death by his wife Merlou.
A memorial service will be held on Aug. 15 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Orinda Country Club. Donations in his name can be made to American Cancer Society.
