Jose Montiel, of Gilroy, passed away on May 17, 2003. He was 78
years of age.
Jose Montiel, of Gilroy, passed away on May 17, 2003. He was 78 years of age.
He is survived by his wife, Eva Montiel of Gilroy. He is also survived by his children, Socorro Montiel of Mexicali, Mexico, Luz Garcia of Oxnard, Evangelina Montiel of Gilroy, Emilio Montiel of Mexicali and Alfonso Montiel of Calexico.
He was the grandfather of 15 and great-grandfather of 14. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Mr. Montiel was preceded in death by son, Jose R. Montiel and grandson, Jose R. Montiel Jr.
Jose was born in Santa Cruz, Sonora, Mexico. He moved to Gilroy 16 years ago, and he enjoyed visiting with friends every morning at the Gilroy Bowling Alley. He was a champion pool player.
Visitation will be on Friday, beginning at 9 a.m. Funeral services will also be held on Friday, beginning at Habing Family Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. and then proceeding to St. Mary’s Church for an 11 a.m. Funeral Mass. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Gilroy.
