Joyce Mary Flanigan, 66, of Cameron Park, died at home June 15.

Flanigan attended Cathedral High School, then received a bachelor’s degree at our Lady of the Elms College in Chicopee, Mass. She earned her master’s degree at Villanova University in Pennsylvania, then came to California to garner an administrative credential through California State University, Sacramento.

Throughout her career in education, Flanigan earned many awards of excellence. She taught high school in Massachusetts and in Vacaville. She served as an assistant superintendent in Gilroy. Later, she served as superintendent of the Crescent City Unified school District and with the Buckeye Unified School District. Her career in education spanned over 40 years.

Flanigan enjoyed directing musical theater and church choirs, traveling and spending time with her extended family. Those who knew her will remember her for her enthusiasm and considerate personality.

She is survived by her life partner, Lydia Roseby; her daughters, Cynthia Bessonen and Pamela Shortgen; her sons, Paul Gunter and Robert Miner; her stepdaughter, Shelli Roseby; her stepsons Anthony and Gregory Arnold; her sister, Patty Spear; her brother Mark Kelliher; 18 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services have been held.
