Brownell wins 7th grade title.
GILROY – The City of Gilroy held its seventh annual Junior High Boys Shootout Tournament over the weekend with games played at South Valley Junior High and both Gilroy High gymnasiums.

Brownell Academy defeated Bret Harte for the seventh grade championship and also won the consolation championship in the eighth grade division by defeating Queen of Apostles. Bret Harte defeated Los Arboles in thr eighth grade championship.

Brownell’s Adrian Rodriguez was named the Most Valuable Player in the seventh grade division, while Christian Lam, of Brownell, Kendrick Azcueta, of Brownell, and Jacob Dexter, of South Valley, were all selected to the first-team all-tournament. In addition, Kevin Grove, of South Valley, was picked for the second-team all-tournament for seventh graders.

Brownell’s Kameron Handy was chosen for the eighth grade first-team all-tournament, while Matt Hemeon, of South Valley, and Michael Martinez, of Brownell, were picked for the second-team all-tournament.
