A local winery has been named one of the 20 best in the world in the October edition of “Food & Wine” magazine. Léal Vineyards’ 2001 Syrah is written up by Richard Nalley as one of “the planet’s 20 most notable new producers, all of which introduced their labels in 1999 or later.”

In the article, the $22 Syrah, is cited for its “sensual mingling of smokiness and bright, cranberry-inflected fruit.”

The winery shares the spotlight with wineries from Spain to Australia to South Africa to Argentina.

Léal’s estate varietals include Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petite Verdot, Mourvedre and Grenache, in addition to the Syrah.
