Dear Editor, My name is Rosalie deVries. I have been a local resident since 1951. My son, Jeremy deVries, 31, has also been a long time resident. The purpose of my letter is not only an urgent appeal to generate critically needed funds to retain private counsel in a horrendous plight we are facing, but also, to bring to your attention, to a 21st century atrocity taking place within our judicial system at the Superior Court in Morgan Hill.
On Aug. 1 2011, Jeremy was ruthlessly taken into custody, where he remains. He has been maliciously and unjustly accused of a sexual crime that he did not commit. These charges are unfounded. We are embroiled in a governmental nightmare. All I want is justice for my son because his reputation and character would not permit him to commit such an act.
Thousands of our Americans across the nation, a nation that stands for freedoms, have suffered severely and have had their lives destroyed by unjust rulings! These innocent incarcerated citizens have no ability to speak for themselves. Jeremy is entitled to a fair trial. Our government was designed to protect, and, it has not.
I’ll explain. To begin, Jeremy’s public defender has had the case since Sept. 12, 2011, and he has not visited him to date. Jeremy is pleading and has been pleading with the public defender to execute a full investigation on all parties involved. He has petitioned for there to be lie detector testings, psychological assessments, a refuting of the falsely fabricated police report. The public defender has denied it all. My son faces 25 to life if convicted. The DA’s and public defender’s goal is to plea bargain using fear and coercion.
What a tragedy! Vindicating evidence is available if the case was being fully investigated. We know the truth and it must be revealed. This is our earnest prayer. There are no checks and balances, hence, unjust imprisonment.
The plea is for us to be able to retain the life-saving expertise of private counsel. It is Jeremy’s only hope for justice and vindication.
