Dear Editor,

I am writing to spread the word about a San Martin resident in need of help. She has fallen on hard times due to the economy and to her husband’s failing health, so she is no longer able to provide care for her pets.

She has 40 cats, some of whom are friendly and would make great house pets, and some of whom are unsocial and would make better barn cats. All are neutered and healthy and ready to go into new homes.

Our animal shelter is small and unable to house this number of cats, so we are appealing to the community to help. Temporary and permanent homes for these cats are urgently needed. We would prefer to place them in pairs because they are so used to living in a group. Seven of the cats are currently at the shelter and can be viewed in the adoption room; the rest are still in the owner’s home.

How can you help? 1)Adopt a pair of these wonderful kitties for your home or ranch. 2) Foster a pair until a permanent home can be found. 3) Donate cat food and litter to tide the owner over until the cats can be placed. Please call (408) 686-3900 or come by the shelter if you can help. Many thanks!
