Book synopsis: A simple parable filled with insights designed to help readers manage change quickly and prevail in changing times. Source: www.powells.com
Why is it your favorite book?: “Because it uses a simple tale to help understand and deal with change. Working with technology means that I’m dealing with continuous improvement and thus change every day.”
When and why did you read it?: “I read it the first time in 1998 when we were still living in Colorado Springs. Since then I’ve re-read it twice. Change does not come easy and getting a refresher on some thoughts and techniques always helps.”
How do you use reading and writing every day?: “Reading and writing takes up at least a few hours a day. I receive and send many e-mails with technology requests from teachers and staff. Applying for grants, writing newsletters, and documenting procedures related to technology in the district are just a few other examples of my daily reading and writing. At home I’m reading the latest novel from David Baldacci, ‘Split Second’ and I’m trying to send out my personal newsletter as often as I can.”
In concert with the Gilroy Unified School District’s “Love of Literacy Week,” The Dispatch will ask high-profile folks around town to discuss their favorite books. Interviews will run through the end of “Literacy Week,” Nov. 17 to 21. For more information on the program, call the district at 847-2700. The GUSD Web site is (www.gusd.k12.ca.us).
