Food drive benefits St. Joseph Family Center
Gilroy – Coldwell Banker has teamed up once again with CanTree to collect much needed food and other items for St. Joseph’s Family Center who will distribute it to local families.
Drop off canned food, baby food, snack items, flour, salt, sugar and diapers size 4 and 5 to Coldwell Banker 7789 Wren Avenue on the corner of First Street.

Winter donations needed for homeless
Gilroy – St. Joseph’s Family Center and Articulate Solutions are continuing their efforts to help keep the homeless in our community stay warm and dry throughout the winter. Donations are needed to help purchase and assemble Winter Survival Kits.
The kits will contain items that will be helpful during the cold winter months: water repellent sleeping bags and jackets, backpacks, knit caps and gloves, flashlights and sundries such as toothpaste, socks and soap.
Checks may be written out to St. Joseph’s Family Center. Please mark your check “Winter Survival Kit.” Donations can be mailed to St. Joseph’s, located at 7950 Church St., Suite A in Gilroy or Articulate Solutions, located at 65 Fifth Ave., Suite 100, also in Gilroy.

SV Symphony creates holiday magic
Gilroy – South Valley Symphony invites you to “Holiday Magic,” featuring Christmas compositions selected by South Valley Symphony Maestro Anthony Quartuccio. Quartuccio successfully led the Opera San Jose Orchestra during its recent highly acclaimed season-opener, “Romeo et Juliette.” Under his leadership the orchestra was hailed as “exceptional” by San Jose Mercury News columnist, Richard Scheinin.
The program is 4pm, Dec. 16 at the Gavilan College Theater.
Admission prices for this family holiday event are $15 for adults, $12 for senior citizens age 55 and older and $8 for students ages 12 to 18.
Children younger than 12 will be admitted free with a paid adult admission.

‘Once on This Island’ hits the stage in December
Gilroy – Mount Madonna School cordially invites the public to the middle school production of “Once on This Island.” Free preview performance 12:30 to 2:30pm, Friday, Dec. 15.
This highly original and theatrical work tells the story of Ti Moune, a peasant girl who rescues, nurses and falls in love with Daniel, a young man from a wealthy family. When Daniel is returned to his people, the gods who rule the island guide Ti Moune on a quest to test the strength of her love against the powerful forces of prejudice, hatred and death.
Students 4th grade and up would enjoy this production.

Unwrapped toys needed for children
Gilroy – The Gilroy Elks RV Group, The Garlic Roamers, are having their annual toy drive. Citizens of Gilroy and Morgan Hill are encouraged to contribute an unwrapped toy.
Please drop off all unwrapped toys at the Elks Lodge no later than Dec. 7.

Raffle helps support a fallen rider
Gilroy – Mario Bonfante, a Gilroy native, had his promising AFM/AMA Road Racing career cut short by a tragic bicycle accident, which broke his neck and left him paralyzed. Mario and his family are now faced with the challenges ahead. You can help.
Mario is an active member of a youth Bible study. Members of his group came up with the idea to have a raffle to raise the funds needed to care for him through rehabilitation.
There will be five prizes announced at the raffle drawing Feb. 12: First prize is $1,000, second prize is $750, third is $500, fourth is $250 and fifth is $100. Raffle tickets are available for $10 each at High Gear Powersports, 7661 Monterey St.
