Minor quake shakes San Benito County
A 3.5-magnitude earthquake rumbled through San Benito County Tuesday night.
The quake’s epicenter was northwest of the Pinnacles National Monument, about 20 miles from Hollister, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The USGS Web site defines a 3.5 temblor as “minor.”
After the 6:30 p.m. quake, Hollister Fire Captain Jeff Granucci said he hadn’t heard any reports of damage. In fact, he said he hadn’t felt anything at all.
As a precaution, the department normally rolls its engines out of the garage “if we feel the earthquake,” Granucci said.
“But we didn’t even feel it,” he said. “It got past us.”
Workers at the Inn at Tres Pinos said they hadn’t felt the earthquake, either.
The temblor comes less than a month after a 5.6 earthquake centered north of San Jose. That quake was the largest in the Bay Area since the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake and its aftershocks.
