GILROY – A man led city police on a chase through city streets at speeds up to 100 mph before crashing his vehicle into a Santa Teresa Boulevard soundwall, according to police.
Johnny Troncoso, 28, of 6410 Princevalle St., could face a felony charge of evading arrest, according to police. They referred the case to the county District Attorney’s Office to possibly bring charges.
Troncoso was treated and released Monday from San Jose Medical Center, where a CALSTAR helicopter flew him after the wreck.
The wreck took place between 2:30 and 3 a.m. Monday at Mantelli Drive and Santa Teresa.
A patrol officer spotted Troncoso driving a 1993 Honda Accord recklessly at about 2:30 a.m. near the intersection of Kern Avenue and Culp Drive, according to police Sgt. Chad Gallicinao. The officer tried to pull Troncoso over, but he fled, leading police on the chase through town.
