A Hollister man suffered multiple stab wounds in a late-night attack outside a Morgan Hill bar, police said.
Morgan Hill police received a call from Saint Louise Regional Hospital about 2 a.m. Thursday regarding a stabbing victim who went to the emergency room for treatment.
The 22-year-old victim, Gilberto Bailon of Hollister, was contacted by police at the hospital. He said he was assaulted from behind by unknown suspects in the alley between Morgan Hill Bowl and the CineLux movie theater at Tennant Station late Wednesday night.
During the attack, Bailon fought to fend off the attack, but he suffered five stab wounds from his hip to his shoulder, according to Morgan Hill police Sgt. Jerry Neumayer.
Bailon told police he had been drinking alcoholic beverages at StriXe Lounge just before the attack, which happened as he was walking to his car about closing time. The suspects, described only as wearing dark clothing, fled after the attack, and Bailon left the scene in a car with his friends who transported him to the hospital, Neumayer said.
The victim was later transported to Regional Medical Center in San Jose due to the severity of his wounds. Neumayer said he was in “stable condition” but did not know if he was out of the hospital Monday afternoon.
The motive for the attack is unclear, and police do not yet know if it was gang-related. No witnesses have been located, and police are reviewing available evidence including video surveillance footage, Neumayer said.
