Combining two areas where Linda Pulido is most gifted – martial
arts and teaching – the 11-time world champion is holding a
self-defense seminar that will double as a fundraiser Saturday at
Christopher High School.
GILROY – Passion could be world champion mixed martial artist Linda Pulido’s middle name.
Passing on the passion she has for the sport and teaching, is second only to her skills in Tae Kwon Do and Eskrima.
Combining two areas where Pulido is most gifted, the 11-time world champion is holding a self-defense seminar that will double as a fundraiser Saturday at Christopher High School.
The proceeds will go toward her and two other USA Eskrima Team members as they travel to Puerto Vallarta for the World Championships in July.
Pulido is participating in three events, single-stick, double-stick and team Eskrima.
“I didn’t just want to ask for donations,” said Pulido, owner of Pulido’s Pro Fitness. “I wanted to help the community with tips to keep them safe and protect themselves.
“With all this stuff going on, (being attacked) can happen anytime and anywhere. It’s a shame.”
Wth the help of special guest, seventh-degree black belt Master Nito Noval, and world champion instructors, Jose Garcia and Rosalie Garcia, there will be three sessions Saturday.
Pulido will teach an adult self-defense class from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. for ages 14 and up, while Jose and Rosalie will lead a kids session for ages 9 to 14. The final class will be an adult Eskrima lesson from noon to 2 p.m. for ages 14 and up.
“We are going to teach takedowns, disarming, the whole thing,” Pulido said.
The first seminar is $60 and $40 more to take a second class. The kids’ session is $40. Registration can be handled at the door or beforehand by contacting Pulido at li**********@***oo.com or call 846-9860.
