Think it Through, a Mosque Here is a Terrible Idea

Dear Editor,

I keep hearing about how the “fanatical Islamic” groups are only a small part of the Islamic faith. That’s true; most experts place the number anywhere between 10 and 20 percent. However, when you apply these numbers to the nearly 1.2 billion Muslims in the world that would mean there are between 120 to 240 million “fanatics” and of the estimated 1.2 million American Muslims, then 120,000 – 240,000 are in the U.S. And of the estimated 300 Muslims in South County, then only 30 to 60 of those “could” be extremists.

Some would say that’s just a scare tactic and that our South County Muslims will be peace loving and not “those” Muslims who want to do us harm. Mohammed Atta’s neighbors said he seemed like a nice man and kept to himself. It only took him and 18 others who shared his belief to cause so many Americans to lose their lives.

That said, I do not believe that all Muslims are bad. If you use the above percentages as a guide, then 80 to 90 percent of all Muslims are not fanatics, right? However, their silence on this issue and their refusal to come out in large, public groups and denounce the fundamentalist both here and worldwide is suspicious.

I’m not talking about one or two Muslims, or an Imam, but hundreds if not thousands of American citizens who practice the Islamic faith. They need to organize marches, public speeches or demonstrations publicly rejecting what is being done around the world (and right here in the U.S.) in the name of their religion. If the “radicals” who have hijacked their religion can get tens of thousands of people to chant “Death to America” in unison, I don’t think it is too much to ask fellow Americans to stand up and say otherwise.

I also continually hear that Islam is a “Religion of Peace”. Why, if it is a religion of peace, must we continually be reminded and told it is a religion of peace? Shouldn’t it stand on it’s own merit as peaceful? You don’t hear those of the Christian, Buddhist or Jewish religions constantly having to remind everyone their religion is peaceful do you?

Roughly 52 percent of the Sura’s in the Koran deal with hatred and threats directed at infidels all non-Muslims). “Make war upon such of those to whom the Scriptures have been given as believe not in God, or in the last day, and who forbid not that which God and His Apostle have forbidden, and who profess not the profession of the truth, until they pay tribute out of hand, and they be humbled.” (Sura 9:29)

There are numerous other Sura’s like these stating similar things to all non-Muslims and even harsher instructions on how to deal with those of the Jewish faith.

Having a mosque in South County is a bad idea. Most all of the funding for acts of violence committed by fundamentalist Muslims come from so called “charity” contributions that are gathered at mosques around the world. For anyone who refuses to accept what a local mosque can do towards furthering radical Islam, just research the 4th Street mosque in San Jose.

You wouldn’t give your house keys to a burglar or your gun to a murderer. Why then would you give a foothold in our community to a group that wants to destroy our way of life? Muslims around the world and here in the U.S. want people to accept them and their religious beliefs, but they refuse to accept the religion and beliefs of others.

These don’t sound like good neighbors.
