Officer Injured Pursuing Wanted Man
Gilroy – A man wanted for a grab-bag of crimes fled from Gilroy police Sunday morning, causing one officer to injure his knee. Efren Fregoso, 36, of San Jose, ran from a Gilroy home at 7:26am Sunday when officers arrived to arrest him on warrant charges of driving under the influence, marijuana possession, driving with a suspended license and failure to appear in court. The officer injured his knee while pursuing Fregoso; Gilroy Police Sgt. Jim Gillio, the department’s public information officer, was unsure of the nature of the injury or how long the officer might be out of work. When Fregoso was caught at 6395 Miller Ave., another charge was added to the list: felony resisting arrest.
