Murder Case Continued to July
San Martin – Attorneys asked to defer David Vincent Reyes plea to July 13, saying they needed extra time to enhance audio tapes relevant to the case. Reyes confessed to the murder of Franca Barsi, his on-again, off-again girlfriend, in September, according to Gilroy Police Detective Mitch Madruga.
Barsi, a Gilroy single mother, was remembered by friends and family as a vivacious former Gilroy Garlic Queen. Police found Barsi dead at her Westwood Drive condominium Sept. 13, 2006.
Reyes was arrested the following day after a car chase that ran from San Jose to Gilroy and back. His plea has been delayed multiple times since Oct. 20, when he was first scheduled to appear in court.

County Seeks Owners of Money
San Jose – Finders keepers, right? Not when it comes to $400,000 of unclaimed money on hold in Santa Clara County coffers.
The money belongs to an estimated 1,400 people who either overpaid county fines and fees or who are entitled to restitution payments because they are victims of crimes.
The Santa Clara Department of Revenue invites those who think they might be entitled to refunds or victim-restitution payments to call (408) 282-3157 to obtain a claim form.
Valid identification is required to file a claim.
The deadline for filing for the unclaimed money is June 29.
After the deadline, unclaimed money in the victim trust fund will be applied to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Victim Witness Assistance Program.
Unclaimed money in the general trust fund will be used as directed by the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors.
