GPD nabs recently released felon

Gilroy police say a known gang member who was recently released from prison under a state law that seeks to reduce inmate populations was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of driving a stolen vehicle and possession of narcotics for sale.

Police blotter: Attempted murder, child abandonment, possession of tear gas

The Gilroy Police Department responded to a variety of crimes this week, including attempted murder, burglary, abandonment of a child, possession of tear gas and unlawful sexual intercourse. The arrests were recorded in the GPD blotter Feb. 18 through 25.

Fire visible from U.S. 101

A fire broke out near Sycamore and Church avenues and was visible from U.S. 101 shortly before 5:30 p.m. this afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol traffic incident information page. Firefighters responded to the scene.
