The City of Gilroy has announced the following, in the wake of a heavy rain forecast: 

Roger and Kathy Santos live on a property on the east side of Gilroy that has been in the family since 1930. Now there is a distinct possibility that their property will be on a collision course with the incoming high-speed rail line.

Police know about protecting and serving, but for the past two weeks, they have added a new duty— shopping.

For more than a decade, patrol officers with the Gilroy Police Department have been primarily working four 10-hour shifts a week. According to a recent study of the department's inner workings, that practice is outdated and doesn't meet the needs of the burgeoning community—and the Gilroy Police Officers Association and the City have agreed to make a historic change.

A candidate has dropped out of the race for three seats on the Gilroy school board but missed the deadline for removal, so his name will be on the ballot.
