Project Homeless Connect at Compassion Center Friday

Community volunteers will offer outreach and camaraderie at Project Homeless Connect from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14 at the Gilroy Compassion Center, a burgeoning homeless shelter located at 8425 Monterey Rd. that serves South County.

Police catch suspects in possession of stolen cars

This week, police responded to several incidents of stolen cars, burglaries and assaults. Here are a few of those incidents: 

Men tied up, robbed at gunpoint of marijuana plants

Men tending a marijuana crop in north Morgan Hill were robbed at gunpoint and two were tied up, leading authorities to eradicate the apparently illegal garden Thursday morning.

Virginia Horton Sword August 5, 1911 – September 10, 2012

Born in Oakland, CA in 1911, Virginia Horton Sword died after a short illness on Monday, September 10, 2012, at the age of 101.

Volunteer search efforts reduced to 1 day a week

As the disappearance of Sierra LaMar, 15, approaches the six-month mark, the KlaasKids Foundation announced it will reduce volunteer search efforts to Saturdays only.

Noah W. Tollison November 26, 1932 – September 7, 2012

Noah W. Tollison, age 79, passed away peacefully at home in Fort Mohave, AZ, surrounded by his family. He was preceeded in death by his loving wife, Dovie, of 60 years, his daughter Regina and his parents Valva and Arzada Tollison.

Eileen Marie Kennedy April 28, 1960 – September 10, 2012

Eileen was born in Lompoc, CA, on April 28, 1960, to Martin William and Mary Anne Washburn (nee Healy), a lovely Irish lass. Eileen passed away last Monday at the age of 52, having been preceded in death by her mother in July of this year.

VOLLEYBALL: Mustangs unable to cool off Anzar

Not much has slowed, let alone stopped, a rolling Anzar High volleyball team through its first nine matches. Gilroy High had it as its objective to halt the surging Hawks, winners of five straight, in a nonleague contest Wednesday night in Gilroy.

WATER POLO: GHS boys, girls score wins over Alvarez

The Gilroy High girls water polo team went about obtaining its first victory of the season in dramatic fashion against Alavrez on Wednesday.
