One person is dead and nine others were injured Monday in a big rig crash near the intersection of Ferguson Road on State Route 152, according to the California Highway Patrol.

‘Celebrity bartending’ event to raise money for nonprofits

Celebrate summer fun and philanthropy at the July 30 “celebrity bartending” event supporting nonprofit organizations that serve South County Residents. The event will feature local public officials serving premium wines and artisan beer, with “generous tipping” encouraged and the proceeds benefiting Community Solutions and the St. Joseph’s Family Center. Serving beverages will be Morgan Hill Mayor Steve Tate, Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors President Mike Wasserman, Gilroy Police Chief Denise Turner and Santa Clara Police Chief Mike Sellers, according to a press release from Community Solutions. The event takes place 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. July 30 at the Silicon Valley Capital Club, 50 W. San Fernando, San Jose. Police blotter: Child endangerment, criminal threats

The Gilroy Police Department responded to a variety of crimes over the past week, from child endangerment to possession of a controlled substance and causing willful harm to a police animal. Arrests were recorded in the GPD blotter between July 9 and 16.
