Gilroy schools hire up a storm of teachers, pay hike helps
GILROY—Teacher union warnings that a reputation for low pay would scare away potential recruits are not holding up in Gilroy, where a modest pay hike has led to scores of new teacher hires and only a handful of open slots left for the coming year.

GILROY—Members of Christopher High School’s Interact Club weren’t sure of the response they would get when they gave up their weekends and sat outside Nob Hill market in Gilroy to collect food for needy people.
$2.4 million grant will benefit Gavilan students
It’s a happy day for local community college students: Gavilan just got a hefty chunk of money from the government that will help streamline the process of getting a four-year degree in nursing, computer science or digital media at California State University, Monterey Bay.
