Brian Greene Pence passed away at his home in Hollister on Saturday at the age of 39. Born in Hollister having lived here all his life. Brian was a heavy equipment operator in construction for nearly 20 years. Survived by his mother, Patsy Pence of Hollister, his brothers, Sam and Loren Pence of Marysville and Anthony Pence, wife, Melissa, of Menifee,CA. Brian is also survived by his grandmother, Winnie Pence of Madera, 3 nieces and 4 nephews and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Morgan Hill resident, Lupe Lorraine Martinez Villanueva (Leda) 85, died peacefully at her home July 10, 2008. She had been a dialysis patient for the last two and a half years. Leda was born Dec. 12, 1922 in Trinidad, CO to Max and Salome (Lucero) Martinez. She was 5th of 15 brothers and sisters. She attended public schools in Trinidad, CO. As a child, she spent many of her formative years living with her grandparents. She married the love of her-James O. Villanueva (Partner) on Dec. 18, 1948, in Pueblo, CO. She, her husband, and their 2 month old baby girl came to a farm in Morgan Hill(off of Cochrane Rd.) in July 1949 where her parents and siblings were picking apricots. Leda and her husband then moved to Los Gatos where her husband worked on a chicken ranch. They lived there until 1952, and then came to a ranch in Morgan Hill to make a home and raise a family.

Dorothy Dyer Woolway, 96, entered into rest on Friday, July 11, 2008 in Mesa, AZ.

Adoring great-grandmother of Matthew, Michelle, Michael & Mark Sosa. Loving sister of Arlene Lujan, Irene Perez, Sylvia Guajardo, Geri Guerriero, Henry Diaz, Edwin Diaz, Bobby Diaz, Alfred Diaz and the late Ella Peralta, Eloise "Cookie" Molina, Benny Diaz and Leonard Diaz. Also preceded in death by her sister-in-law Betty Pappani. Also survived by many nieces & nephews.

Lyman Gregg Horton, a Carmel resident since 1996, died at his home on July 12, 2008. A native of South Pasadena, CA, he was born November 26, 1915. Lyman received his Engineering Degree from UC Berkeley and was a Civil and Structural Engineer for 43 years. He is survived by his wife, Dorothea "Beps" Horton of Carmel; his daughters, Ann Horton of Reno and Carol (Jerry) Hawkins of Hollister; his sisters, Barbara Wiley of Manhattan, KS and Phyllis Borie of Douglas City, CA; his grandsons, Mark Hawkins of Hollister and Lee (Anna) Hawkins of Bakersfield and his great-granddaughter, Allyson. Lyman was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Ferguson Horton, in 1991. At his request, no services will be held. On July 12th, 2008 God called home his child, Colonel Merwin Hancock Silverthorn, Jr. Col. Silverthorn had been waiting to meet his maker and join his wife of 63 years, who had preceded him.
