GILROY – Classes at Gavilan College start next Monday, leaving students with one more week to register for the fall semester.
Registration is open for classes at Gavilan’s Gilroy campus, as well as its Hollister and Morgan Hill sites.
Students may register in person at each Gavilan location, or by calling the phone-in registration at 846-3729. To register over the phone, students must be using a credit card to pay class fees.
“There are classes that have filled, although there is still room,” said Jan Bernstein Chargin, Gavilan spokeswoman. “Generally, things that are filled have multiple sections.”
The college is adding 70 sections this fall after cutting about 100 class sections last fall.
This semester, Gavilan is offering a new computer science class, Introduction to Geographic Information Systems, which explores using computer-based tools to analyze and manage spatial information.
“It’s really a growing part of business now – global positioning and geographic information systems,” Chargin said. “There’s more and more demand for these skills so we wanted to make sure it was something we had available to our students.”
Students may register at Gavilan’s Gilroy office at 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd. today through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. The campus will be closed Friday, Aug. 13.
“While late registration does go through the 20th, we would encourage people to register as early as possible,” Chargin said.
The registration office will close at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 20.
For more information about registering for Hollister classes, call (831)636-3783 or for information about Morgan Hill registration, call 782-2873.
