Two years ago, Terry Mahurin attended a water district meeting. A stranger, Bob Cerruti, made a presentation on the history of water rate increases. Mahurin thought Cerruti was probably full of baloney, but he stayed after the meeting to talk to him and look at his data.
Hard to muster sympathy for this $45,000 fee case
Yes, it’s an astounding number that Chris Coté has cost the city by forcing legal maneuverings. Under most circumstances, a $45,000 fee assessment from the city would be outlandish, but, as with most issues involving the controversial Coté, a seemingly simple matter has evolved into a nightmarish situation.
Gilroy Fire’s systemic issues
What’s becoming more and more clear is that there’s something systemically wrong with the Gilroy Fire Department. What’s wrong is exemplified by the ongoing lawsuit brought against our community for overtime pay by well-compensated assistant fire chiefs Phil King and Ed Bozzo (retired). What’s wrong is exemplified by the fact that the firefighters are the only group to ever force the city into binding arbitration. What’s wrong is exemplified by the fact that the firefighters union again hasn’t settled contract negotiations with the city.
Editorial: Looking forward to telling the stories that matter
As the calendar turns, there’s a natural temptation to rush forward—to close the book on 2025 as quickly as possible and greet 2026 with a fresh page and high hopes.
