House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has won re-election, easily brushing off a challenge from anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan.

Pelosi, a Democrat, won a 12th term representing San Francisco in the U.S. House, according to early returns Tuesday from absentee ballots.

Sheehan became famous for camping outside President Bush’s Texas ranch to demand an end to the war in Iraq after the death of her son, Casey.

Sheehan, who ran as an independent in her first campaign for public office, accused Pelosi of failing to use her position in the House to end the war.

Pelosi largely ignored her opponent’s candidacy.
