Connie Rogers (left) and Joanne Fierro unveil one of two new interpretive signs May 7 for the historical whaling kettle and millstones on display in front of the Gilroy Museum at 195 Fifth St. The kettle pictured was brought to Gilroy from Monterey circa 1840 and used by John Gilroy, the city’s namesake, to make soap from tallow and alkali. The artwork on the signs was created by local artist Carol Peters.
