GILROY – Pizza N Stuff-Toto Stingers earned the Men’s E League adult basketball championship this week with a 2-0 series sweep over Handmade Healthcare at South Valley.
Andres Espinosa poured in 17 points Tuesday as the Stingers opened the best 2-of-3 Championship Series with a 56-46 decision. Eduardo Gamoba hit for 20 points Wednesday as the Stingers turned back Handmade 51-43.
Fritter-Schulz Physical Therapy opened the post-season competition Tuesday with a 50-49 nod over Morgan Hill Garage Door to claim the second-place Men’s D award.
Josh Carter capped a team-high 19-point performance for the Therapists with one free throw with seven seconds left to snap a 49-49 tie.
Dave Chang scored 12 points and Gabe Gonzales provided 11 for Fritter-Schulz. Jacob Garcia anchored the Garage Door attack with 23 points.
Pizza N Stuff-Toto Stingers built a 27-26 lead by halftime of Tuesday’s playoff opener, then traded the lead with Handmade until the closing four minutes. Gamboa scored 10 points and Teo Ponce drilled two three-point field goals for the winners. Marco Lopez made two 3-pointers in a 21-point explosion for Handmade Healthcare. Nick Posley followed with 14 points.
Alexis Rivas tallied 16 points to aid the Wednesday clincher for the Stingers. Handmade took a 22-20 lead into halftime. Lopez topped the Handmade scoring with 15 points, with Posley good for 14.
