Rash of auto burglaries result in 3 arrests
Police arrested three males after two separate strings of vehicle burglaries early Tuesday morning in north Gilroy.
The first arrest came after a resident living near the intersection of Calle del Rey and Longmeadow Drive reported a suspicious male rummaging through a truck bed and cab, about 1 a.m. The reporting party saw the male get into a vehicle – not stolen – and drive away.
Police stopped the vehicle near the intersection of Ousley Drive and Welburn Drive and found that one of the occupants was on probation and conducted a search of the vehicle. They found clothing and music reported stolen from a car Oct. 11 and a checkbook reported stolen from another previous vehicle burglary.
Police arrested Alfonso Paul Cruz, 21, of the 1000 block of San Miguel Street, and William Ivanco, 24, of the 7700 block of Isabella Way, on suspicion of theft, possession of burglary tools, breaking into private property with intent to steal and conspiring to commit a crime.
Later that night, a resident on the 8500 block of Kelton Drive reported seeing three males looking through vehicles with flashlights and removing items from a vehicle. Police arrested Santiago Manzo, 20, no address given, near the intersection of Culp Drive and Howard Avenue, on suspicion of burglary tools and breaking into private property with intent to steal.
Scam victim sees gold turn into brass
A person inside Target, 6705 Camino Arroyo, was convinced by two Hispanic males to give them $5,000 in exchange for a cube of gold, between 1 and 3 p.m. Friday. However, that cube turned out to be brass and worth much less.
The suspects are described as being between 45 and 50 years old. One man is about 5-feet, 2-inches and 140 pounds while the other man is about 5-feet, 4-inches and 180 pounds with brown hair. The two men are wanted for grand theft and conspiring to commit a crime.
