Over the past week, police responded to several incidents of burglary, assaults, theft and drug related crimes. Here are a few of those incidents.
Man assaulted in park
On June 19 at 4 p.m., an 18-year-old Gilroy man was walking through the parking lot at Las Animas Park when a silver 2000 Toyota pulled up and a short stalky Hispanic man got out to punch the man in the face, knocking him to the ground. The suspect took the man’s wallet and left in the Toyota.
Man steals beer, knife
Ken Wickholm, a 59-year-old Gilroy man with multiple theft convictions, was arrested on June 20 at 3:40 p.m. on First Street for allegedly stealing a 24 ounce Pabst Blue Ribbon beer and a pocket knife. He was arrested for commercial burglary and was taken to Santa Clara County Jail.
Man with concealed weapon
Sam Brown, a 38-year-old Gilroy resident, was allegedly caught hiding a machete in his pants on June 20 at 10:50 p.m. Police arrested him for possession of a dirk or dagger and trasnported him to Santa Clara County Jail.
19-year-old arrested for cocaine and meth sales
When police pulled over a 1999 black Ford Mustang on June 21 at 11:07 p.m., on Railroad Street near Sixth Street, the passenger, John Lugo, 19 of Gilroy, fled from the car. He was shortly caught and police allegedly found him with 21 grams of cocaine and 2 grams of crystal meth, a digital scale and packaging material. He was arrested for resisting arrest and possession of a controlled substance for sales Lugo was sent to Santa Clara County Jail.
Man arrested for burglary
Trinidad Rodriguez, 18-year-old Gilroy resident was arrested for burglary on June 22 at 5:15 p.m. after he allegedly entered an unsecure residence on Third Street near Rea Street and stole about $2,340 worth of belongings, mostly electronics such as video game consoles and laptops.
A concerned citizen called police, reporting that a man was walking down Rea Street carrying suspicious bags. When police made contact with him, he fled but was caught on the 7700 block of Princevale Street and was arrested for residential burglary, possession of stolen property and resisting arrest. He was taken to Santa Clara County Jail.
Stolen construction equipment, suspect at large
Over the past month, an unknown suspect or suspects have stolen about $12,000 worth of construction supplies on Church Street near First Street. The victim reported that the suspect might drive a white Chevy truck with Arizona license plates. Â
