Dear Editor,

I find it alarming that our elected officials in Sacramento are working to undermine the will and voice of California voters. For those who do not remember, a majority of California voters passed Proposition 22 (2002) into law by 61.3 percent. This proposition stated CLEARLY that California recognized marriage only between one man and one woman. It was that clear and that simple. Many legislatures in Sacramento are convinced that 61.3 percent of these voters “misunderstood” the verbage of this simply stated proposition.

I voted for Proposition 22 and am highly offended that our representatives in Sacramento are currently and aggressively working to discredit and undermine our vote. I thought America was founded on the principle “of the people, by the people, for the people.” This does not seem to be the case in Sacramento.

AB 849 is a crucial bill that is being pushed by certain legislatures in this state to redefine marriage. This bill is a blatant attempt to override the will of the people. I encourage those senators and assembly members representing the south county to respect the voice of Californians and vote no on AB 849 (same-sex marriage bill).

I strongly encourage those of you who support marriage between one man and one woman, to contact your state assembly member and senator and let them know you expect them to represent you when they vote on AB 849; legislation that would redefine marriage as history has always known it, undermine the will of voters and be detrimental to families and children.
