DEAR EDITOR:
Councilman Russ Valiquette was right when he said he was tired of hearing about Morgan Hill’s police station. The Dispatch continues to compare MH’s empty office building with the construction of Gilroy’s brand new building.
The Dispatch always omits the fact that Morgan Hill bought an already built building. They also paid a very depressed price for it because it had been on the market for, I believe, three years. Once again – Gilroy is starting from scratch and is sticking with city leaders plans for a central civic center.
This facility will accommodate Gilroy’s needs for the next 30 years whereas Morgan Hill will be looking again in less than 10. You tell me who is showing leadership.
If The Dispatch thinks the city is paying too much, prove it. The Dispatch needs to come out clean and describe the project in detail to the citizens of Gilroy. The cost of steel is significant and out of the councils hands and is definitely not an “excuse.”
If The Dispatch had its way, we could always follow Morgan Hill’s lead and make the soon-to-be-vacated PW grocery store our new police station.
