Freshman drives in three runs for Gavilan softball.
GILROY – The Gavilan College softball team proved that its not going to let a hard loss drag them down. After a hard-to-handle defeat at the hands of West Valley on Wednesday, the Lady Rams came back the next day to charge past Chabot, 5-1.

“The kids played a wonderful game. Defensively and offensively, they were on their toes,” second-year skipper Tim Kenworthy said. “I’m very proud of the girls.”

The game started with Chabot scoring their first and only run of the game first to take an early 1-0 lead.

The Lady Rams answered right back though, tying the score in the bottom of the first frame on a two-out base knock by pitcher Stephanie Denton.

In the third inning, the Lady Rams jumped out in front with three more runs – two coming off Denton’s double to left field.

Gavilan’s last run was scored in the fourth inning when Leann Batinovich stole home. Chabot threatened to score every inning – but the Lady Rams’ defense remained steady and sollid throughout.

“Everyone played awesome,” Denton said. “There was nothing wrong with the way we played today.”

The Lady Rams play again in the Foothill Tournament on Saturday to Sunday and then head to College of San Mateo for a March 18 game at 3 p.m.
