“I’ve written before and here goes again. The city needs to paint the left turn lanes on the areas of Arroyo Circle onto Leavesley Road and Camino Arroyo making a left onto Highway 152. Folks in the middle lanes are always driving into the inside lane almost causing us to be hit so many times.”
 and …
“The striping on the lane dividers is completely gone on the north bound exit off Highway 101 onto Leavesley Road. People are criss crossing and having all kinds of trouble making the turn.”
& Red Phone: Dear Re-Striping Needed, The city hasn’t forgotten your concerns about these areas, said David Stubchaer, the operations supervisor. The intersection on Camino Arroyo and 10th Street itself is the jurisdiction of Caltrans and the city is not allowed to do any changes there, he said. Stubchaer agreed that additional guidance would be helpful there. We’ll forward your request on and let you know what we find out.
As a reminder, cars driving south on Camino Arroyo and turning right onto Highway 152 must stop at the light. “I see many many people run that red light which is against the law. The reason they have a light there is to protect pedestrians which may be trying to cross,” Stubchaer said.
As for the area around Leavesley Road, the striping was refreshed earlier this year, he said, and the striping appeared to be in “reasonable shape.” “Most, if not all, striping is more difficult to see at night and if the pavement is wet, re-striping doesn’t seem to help in that instance for very long.,” he said. “When we stripe such areas, we make use of reflective glass beads mixed into the paint for added visibility at night, but everything seems to be reflective when wet.”
The city has said in the past that it needs a long dry period for any re-striping work, so anything that is done in this area will at least have to wait until spring.
