I agree that the people of Gilroy should be able to get in to
Gilroy Gardens at a discounted rate. I have lived in Gilroy all my

“I agree that the people of Gilroy should be able to get in to Gilroy Gardens at a discounted rate. I have lived in Gilroy all my life and have only recently gone to Gilroy Gardens. The only reason we attended was because we had a $9.99 coupon from the water company. I would have not been able to afford it otherwise, especially during these tough times. I did run into a lot of Gilroy citizens and they wished that a we would receive some sort of fair discount all year long. I will return but not at $35+ per person.”
but …
“In response to the person who keeps saying Gilroy Gardens is useless to Gilroy, I think it’s a direct insult to all the volunteers who put many hours of their precious time to make it work. It’s a wonderful place. People come from all over with their children to have a day of fun and to be children themselves. There is no other park like it for many miles, and it is an asset to Gilroy. I say to this person, try having some fun at Gilroy Gardens and enjoy the circus trees.”
Red Phone: Dear Gilroy Gardeners, The park is indeed a unique place for families to visit that many locals don’t fully appreciate. There are many fun things for the whole family such as the bird and wild animal demonstrations going on through Aug. 29.
Entrance can be a little pricey, especially for large families. We’ve found a few deals that might help you out.
Through Sunday and then again Aug. 17-23, members can bring a guest free.
The park is offering a Lotsa Card that serves as a season pass for the rest of the season. The card is the same price as a regular admission ticket.
And if you order your tickets at www.gilroygardens.org, you can get a better rate.
There are coupons available as well. You can find a coupon for $13 off of the general admission price or a coupon for half off on general admission during weekdays for the month of July at sfbayfun.com/coupons.html.
Not sure if that will tip the scales and make you go to the park, dear caller, but it should help you have a bit of money to maybe buy a souvenir.
Bikes on Highway 152?
“A man riding a bicycle and pulling a baby trailer west on Highway 152 – now I have seen it all. We really need to stop these people from riding bikes west over Highway 152 to Watsonville. Do you believe that you can’t ride a bike on Highway 129 but you can on Highway 152? Wow, a few people will be killed before we put a stop to it. It’s just crazy. Have you seen how fast some big vans and trucks drive though there?”
Red Phone: Dear Share The Roads, Maybe they are just trying to get to Gilroy Gardens. Or maybe not. Highway 152 is one of the most scenic roads in the county, but it also can be one of the most dangerous. The narrow curves especially on the west side don’t give cyclists much room to maneuver around cars. Cyclists have to use discretion when riding. While a single experienced rider may be fine, they probably should leave the kid at home if they choose this route.
While Highway 129 may be the more straighter of the two roads, it is also designated as a truck route, making it more dangerous.
There have been about 200 fatalities of bicyclists along roadways in the Bay Area since 1997, and there are more than 100 fatalities each year across the state, according to the California Highway Patrol.
