Dear Editor,

As all the people on the school board already know, Mrs. Joanne Lewis has been reading “inappropriate” material to her sixth grade students. I have already experienced hearing that poem from Mrs. Lewis, and if you think that is “inappropriate” than you must have absolutely NO humor at all.

Tell me that you would not be nervous in your first year at junior high. She does this to help you relax and feel comfortable.

The sixth graders that hear that poem should be mature enough to laugh, since they did learn all about reproduction in fifth grade when they saw “the movie”. This poem was a little “out of line” but if a friend showed you this poem and you did not laugh, you have got to be a pretty tight person.

In the newspaper article, it says that Mrs. Lewis tries to be “cool” with the students. If you haven’t heard that Mrs. Lewis is “the best teacher in school” then where have you been?

If you ask almost every student she has taught, they will most likely say that she is one of the best teachers they have ever had. Mrs. Lewis is always smiling and there to fix a problem or cheer you up. If you go to her class after school, probably more than 50 students will come and say hello. Mrs. Lewis teaches her students everything the California state standards asks her to do. We have learned history, how to start, write and end an essay, and how to do Cornell notes.

Now to the matter of Ms. Mendoza. Spreading those packets about how “bad” a teacher Mrs. Lewis is; that is even more immature than reading that poem to the sixth graders. She should be very ashamed for acting like that. Mrs. Lewis made a mistake. So what! Everybody makes a mistake now and then.

If you ask most parents, they have most likely heard of Mrs. Lewis at one time or another. This article and matter has simply infuriated Brownell students. If you dismiss Mrs. Joanne Lewis, Brownell will face a huge shortage in happiness, education and humor. If you take Mrs. Lewis’ teaching job, it will be like taking her life. She loves to teach and she loves the kids.
