Dear Editor:
Ohhhhhhh, what a surprise!
When Gilroy’s instant-action Committee for Responsible Development, with strong union backing, found it couldn’t intimidate Gilroy City Council with dire warnings and self-proclaimed “community outrage” concerning financial incentives to Newman Development Group, the “shelved” their proposed referendum (“Referendum abandoned” – May 2). Why? Says Miguel Correa (father of “I-want-so-much-to-be-on-City-Council” Paulie Correa) in a prepared statement: “… we need to focus on voter registration and voter turnout in November.” How? The “Latino Democratic Forum under the leadership of state Assemblyman Manny Diaz (D-San Jose)” will send members to “supermarkets and other places” to sign up unregistered voters.
That raises several questions:
1) Isn’t that nothing more than ballot-box stuffing to benefit Council wanna-be little Paulie so, come November, his “support” will come from newly signed and obviously concerned and caring, Latinos and union drones mindlessly following their marching orders? Mayor Tom Springer thinks so. His comment: “… this whole effort has been a ruse to serve as a platform for Paul Correa’s upcoming council bid.” What little Paulie failed to win with similar tactics two years back he’ll try for again using those same or modified, routines from the same level.
2) When and why did San Jose’s Manny Diaz and the Latino Democratic Forum become concerned with Gilroy’s political affairs? Again, little Paulie drags in outside Gilroy “support” to divide and polarize the community while pursuing his personal political agenda.
What it comes to: the Committee for Responsible Development and Gilroy’s two dynamic duo teams (Miguel and little Paulie Correa – Council members Peter Arellano and Charles Morales) are not interested in Gilroy’s future nor how to positively reach it. They’ve shown only indifference to this community’s growth as, peddling their daily “shuck and jive” (“Shuck” – something of little value’; “Jive” – … glib, deceptive or foolish talk’ – Webster’s New Collegiate Dictionary) they work to turn City Council into another drone union shop.
Little Paulie seeks to distance himself from the planned community disruption his father, the union and Mr. Diaz drag into Gilroy. His pious claim: “(My dad) is a strong advocate of doing what’s best for the community and of making sure the interests of the community are out in the public sector rather than a small minority making decisions at Council right now.” Golly, little Paulie, haven’t you noticed? Council meetings are open to the public; meeting videotapes are available to the public; there are newspaper/radio/TV/word of mouth about Council actions. How then do you imply the elected members of Council are preventing “making sure the interests of the community are out in the public sector?”
Pathetically, your continuing shuck and jive rings as empty and self-serving as your disclaimer two years ago you had no part in the malicious brochure attacking your opposition.
You don’t wash little Paulie! You failed to get yourself onto Council two years ago – you’re going to fail again! You willingly carry too many out-of-town millstones that seek to serve personal agendas and not the community’s good. Why do you do that to yourself?
