The $150 million Gilroy school bond passed by 67 percent, promising to deliver a second comprehensive high school campus to the city. Measure P needed 55 percent to pass.

The race for the three Gilroy Unified School District trustee seats was much closer. Challenger Fred Tovar led the pack with 27.18 percent. Incumbent Rhoda Bress garnered 24.35 percent, Mark Good had 24.35 percent and Jaime Rosso trailed with 24.15 percent. Tovar’s vote total, 7,013, showed a 782-vote advantage over Rosso.

The city’s library bond, facing a daunting need for 66 percent yes votes, garnered 68.1 percent to raise $37 million in new construction funds.
