Beau Hunter

Beau Hunter of Gilroy has successfully completed California Highway Patrol cadet training. He is assigned to duty at the CHP’s Sante Fe Springs area office.

Hunter is a 2002 graduate of Gilroy High School. He served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps, attaining the rank of corporal. Prior to joining the CHP, he was employed as a carpenter.

Renee Calvert

Renee Calvert, daughter of Kinley and Debra Calvert of Morgan Hill, received a bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences.

Calvert, a graduate of Live Oak High School, majored in art theory and practice. She was a member of Campus Crusade for Christ. Calvert will pursue a career in animation.

Travis Antoniono

Travis B. Antoniono received his commission into the United States Air Force as a Second Lieutenant on June 26, 2009.

Antoniono graduated with honors from California State University, Sacramento where he received a bachelor’s degree in business finance and a bachelor’s degree in business risk management.

He completed Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps at Sacramento’s Detachment 088 after being awarded a four-year scholarship.

Antoniono has recently been named a California Capital Airshow Scholar and will begin his master’s program in the fall. In December, he will report to Laughlin Air Force Base in Texas for Undergraduate Pilot Training.

Antoniono, son of Mark and Catrina Antoniono of Hollister, is a 2005 graduate of San Benito High School.

Jason Decosta

Jason Decosta recently completed his term of service in the United States Marine Corps, attaining the rank of corporal. While in the Marine Corps, he served two tours of duty in Iraq.

Decosta, son of David Decosta and Janice Decosta, is a 1998 graduate of Gilroy High School. He lives in Carlsbad with his wife Tammy (Sanchez).

Justin Barroza

Justin Scott Barroza, 24, is an aspiring chef at The California Culinary Academy of San Francisco. Born and raised in Gilroy and a Gilroy High School graduate, Barroza entered The Culinary Academy in September 2008 and has continuously received high marks as he works toward his dream of becoming a well-known chef.

He entered a cooking contest among 40 others to be part of the U.S. team in Taipei, Taiwan at the World Culinary Contest, which is held bi-annually. Barroza was chosen as one of five culinary student apprentices to experience the competition.

The World Culinary Contest is being held Aug. 20 to 23 in Taipei, Taiwan, and teams are invited from around the world to compete in an “Iron Chef” type cook-off. This is the third year the Asian Chefs Association has been invited to participate in this prestigious contest. Barroza’s family congratulates him on winning this competition and wishes the best of luck to the U.S. Team as Team USA strives for gold.
