Live TV is an adrenaline rush. And an adventure. You never quite know what you’re going to get.

This weekend, we hope to get six hours of live coverage from the Hollister Vet’s Building of the one and only Hollister Independence Rally.

You can watch our coverage of the rally on Channel 20 in Gilroy, Hollister and San Juan Bautista, Saturday and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Our crews will be out perusing the streets on Friday, catching such events as the Tattoo Contest, Biker Billy Cooks with Fire, and the Burnout Contest.

I’m thrilled to say that we’ll also be getting footage of one of my personal favorite bands, Lydia Pense and Cold Blood, on Friday night. You’ll be able to see highlights from those events during the Saturday and Sunday live coverage, as we’ll “roll them in” between interviews.

Speaking of interviews … our lovely and talented live hosts will be back in action this year, bringing you play-by-play coverage of the rally, and interviewing some on-the-street characters, as well as local faces.

Rob Campbell, a local biker himself, will be accompanied by the bubbly and vivacious co-host Liz Crane – who also happens to by my beloved sister-in-law – for the entire six hours of coverage.

Pop by CMAP’s live set in front of the Hollister Vet’s Building and say hi to the folks at home. We’d love to see you.

On Saturday, our crews will be shooting the Wall of Death event, Arm Wrestling contest, and the Extreme Trials Riding Show.

You can also look forward to music segments from Army Ants on Saturday. Should be a pretty rockin’ afternoon.

Sunday will bring coverage of Biker Games and general interviews with passersby, as well as footage from the bands Rise, Everything Nothing, Big Rain and Enlightened Rouges.

We’ll also sneak in our segment of the ever-popular Miss Hollister Independence Pageant.

In the event that we have technical difficulties, keep your eyes on the channel and we’ll let you know when the coverage will repeat.

We’re playing with some new live equipment, just installed at the Vets Building by our friends at Charter Communications. It’s going to be an interesting and exciting experiment, as are most live shows!

Thanks to our viewers for their patience as we venture into new community television territory here.

By the way, most of the camera people and behind-the-scenes crew people are volunteers at CMAP.

We always have a blast out there, so if you’re interested in signing up to help with the coverage next year, or for our next big event (the Garlic Festival!), give us a call. As always, repeat schedules are available on our Web site at www.mycmap.org.
