A Santa Clara County Sheriff’s deputy was transported to the hospital this morning after the patrol car he was driving collided with a Honda Accord.
The deputy was driving the marked car south on Monterey Road near Bisceglia Avenue when he attempted to make a U-turn about 7:45 a.m. The Honda Accord was also traveling south, behind the deputy, and crashed into the patrol car’s driver’s side door, police said.
Emergency personnel who responded to the scene had to pry open the caved-in door of the Crown Victoria patrol car with hydraulic tools in order to remove the deputy, according to police. He was transported to Kaiser Santa Teresa hospital.
The female driver of the Honda was not transported to a hospital, and authorities at the scene did not know if she suffered injuries.
Police have not yet determined if the deputy was responding to a call when the accident happened, or if his emergency lights or siren were turned on.
It is unknown how fast each car was traveling, and who is at fault, according to Morgan Hill Police Sgt. Jerry Neumayer. The Sheriff’s Office and MHPD will each conduct investigations into the accident.
Police have not yet released the deputy’s name.
