The Gilroy Parks and Rec fourth-grade boys basketball team, the “Slammers” completed the season undefeated and playoff champions.
According to current stats kept by Gilroy Parks and Rec, there has never been a fourth-grade boys team that has gone the entire season and postseason undefeated.
The leading scorers on the team were Connor McConkie with 76 on the year, Zach Loo with 68, Kelon Jacobs with 50 and Chris McCann with 19. Some great defensive efforts came from Phillip Castro and Zach Fishler.
The teams’ coaches said they will never forget the Slammers and the season they had.
“I have never been so proud of a group of kids in my life. These kids showed heart and determination that I never thought a fourth-grader was even capable of,” said coach Nick Fortino. “This year made me fall in love with coaching.”
