Girls Water Polo: Cougars go 1-1 in Day 1 of “Stinky Rose” tourney

GILROY—Christopher’s Nicole Andresen had a lot of firsts at the “Stinky Rose” Tournament Friday. It’s her first year playing water polo, her first tournament and her first time playing not one, but full two games as the goalie.

GIRLS BASKETBALL: Cougars hold off Mustangs in thrilling crosstown contest

The Christopher High girls basketball team shot out to an 11-0 lead midway through the first quarter, held that same-sized advantage at the half, carried a nine-point cushion into the final quarter and led by 14 with 3:45 to play in the game. As that saying goes, “It ain’t over till it’s over.” Especially when it involves CHS and Gilroy High, where it has become the norm to expect just about anything.

Track and Field: Foster, Una Dia lead long list of local stars at Avis Kelley Invitational

Christopher High sophomore Allison Foster won the varsity girls 300-meter hurdles in 48.02 seconds and placed in three other events during the Avis Kelley Invitational on Saturday at Gilroy High.

GILROY—Gilroy wrapped up its regular season with a bang.

Wrestling: Balers dominate Christopher, 51-18

The San Benito High wrestling team took all of the drama out of Wednesday night’s Monterey Bay League Gabilan Division match against visiting Christopher. The Haybalers won nine of the first 14 individual weight classes en route to a 51-18 victory.

ROUNDUP: GHS track closes league regular season with wins

Gilroy High senior track and field athletes went out as winners in their final Tri-County Athletic meet, as both the boys (89-49) and girls (71-61) Boys defeated North Salinas on Wednesday in Gilroy.

Christopher and San Benito took things to the mat Wednesday and the Cougars claimed a 44-30 win over their neighbors to the south.

With Thursday’s match between Gilroy and Christopher tied at 3-all, it was up to the No. 3 doubles team to decide a winner.
