Gilroy High scored nine runs in its Central Coast Section Division II first round game Wednesday. With the way freshman Lauren Castro pitched in the Mustangs' quarterfinals matchup with Los Altos on Saturday night, one would've been plenty.

GILROY—Gilroy’s football teams have a lot to prove this week. The Mustangs are out to show that their Week 2 win over Sobrato was no fluke. Christopher, on the other hand, wants the world to know its better than it played in its Week 2 loss to Live Oak.

An eight-run fourth inning was the nail in the coffin for Gilroy in its crosstown bout with Christopher. 

Two Cougars had the games of their lives and it all came at the expense of Live Oak.

Christopher High School punched its ticket to the CCS playoffs, but not before receiving a scare from North Monterey County.

Taylor Fabing scored 14 points to lead San Benito High’s girls basketball team to a 38-34 victory over Christopher in the consolation bracket final of the Del Mar Tournament on Saturday.

The 2011-12 season didn't go according to original plan for the Gilroy High boys varsity basketball team. But as the Mustangs have done throughout, they put forth maximum effort against visiting Salinas in the Tri-County Athletic League finale for both teams on Senior Night Friday in Gilroy.

The Gilroy football team proved it is a force not to be reckoned with.

For the second straight game, Christopher knocked off the league-leading San Benito. 

“I heard a pop,” Gianna Brown said as she hobbled off the field during Christopher’s Nov. 14 Central Coast Section field hockey playoff game at Monta Vista.
